“Preventive Conservation, by Yazan Khalili”. Yazan will try, through his project, to address questions of cultural boycott to Israeli institutions. Can the artwork boycott? Imagine a work being sold to a given collector who then donates it to an Israeli venue. What possibilities do artists have to interfere? Is it they who should be held responsible – or can the artwork be held responsible in and of itself? The project aims is to develop a legal contract which can transfer the responsibility from artist to work, and will require extensive engagement with international law, in particular with the “droit de suite”, and with the shifting rules of the art market.
