The Syllabus is a reading project of a simple object. Notes, handwritten words and drawings on pieces of paper, by filmmaker Hani Joharieh in Beirut in the mid 1970’s. One of the founding members of the first film unit dedicated to the Palestinian revolution, Joharieh penned down his thoughts on film-making during a time of revolution. The Syllabus as a reading process will manifest itself in two folds: a publication and a workshop. The Workshop is an act of performance. It is to see to which extent the instructions and reflections Joharieh left behind him are applicable in the context of today’s film-making.
